This is Carlos Alberto Morales Velázquez. He is 22 years old and his dream is to become a mathematics teacher.
From an early age, he has excelled in math. He also understands that knowledge is meant to be shared. He reached university level being a constant, dedicated student – always giving his all.
One day during class, he noticed a strange pain in his abdomen – one that was accompanied by a general malaise that left him without strength. He went for urgent treatment and they notified him that it was appendicitis, which had to be operated on as soon as possible. His parents, who have minimal resources, struggled to obtain loans and other ways to raise funds. Although they were ultimately successful in this endeavor, they found themselves in debt in the end.
During the intervention, the doctors realized that his appendix had a malformation which made it impossible for him to have a normal operation. They had to perform a colostomy so that he could continue to have a normal life.
Colostomies are a medical procedure that allows a patient to relieve himself normally. However, they are a temporary measure until the body is suitable for another intervention. This time period can last from four to six months. Because of his lack of financial resources, Carlos has had his colostomy for more than a year. For each day that passes, he wonders when the day might come that he feels normal again.
In conjunction with the Health Program, help was sought from a specialist. They have been quoted a cost of around $3,000 for the operation – a price that the family cannot afford.
Carlos Alberto’s humble dream is to have a stable job so that his family can progress. Without a timely intervention, his life is at stake. With your help, you can not only change the life of a young person, but the well-being of an entire family. Thank you very much for your generosity.
