Mrs. Xochitl: A mother fighting for the well-being of her son, despite everything

Mrs. Xóchitl is a hard-working, resilient and capable mother, who lives in the Javier Rojo Gómez Ejido, in our community of the Nuestra Señora del Tepeyac Chapel.

She never had time to dream of a university career, because being the oldest of her 9 siblings meant that she had to work to help support the family. After finishing elementary school, they sent her to work in a factory to contribute to the home.

Mrs. Xóchitl is the mother of a 10-year-old boy named Jesús Emmanuel, whose name she chose because she wants to keep Jesus Christ in mind for the rest of her life. She is a widow; her husband died 6 years ago from bone cancer, which caused Jesús Emmanuel to struggle, and she had irreparable pain, because both saw how his beloved family member suffered, screamed, and lamented all of the suffering he was enduring.

Currently, and due to the lack of opportunities she has, she works taking care of 3 children between 5, 12 and 15 years old in a house near hers, with a schedule that goes from 5 in the morning to 7 in the afternoon. He helps the children by getting them ready to go to school, picking them up from their classes and providing them with what they need, helping them with their homework, all of this with a salary of 9.52 pesos per hour, approximately 0.56 dollars.

She has tried to change jobs, but unfortunately she does not meet the number of requirements that are asked for in a normal job in the city, due to her age and the illnesses that have accompanied her for some time, not to mention that they give her permission to be more aware of his beloved son. She even agreed to be part of the school’s board of directors so that her son is as well as possible, given his psychological condition, and can make friends or learn as he wants.

Jesús Emmanuel would like to stop studying to dedicate himself to helping at his house, but his mother is the one who tells him that he must succeed in school in order to excel in life. She tells him: “You are going to study as much as you can.” This kind of drive as a brave mother who wants the best for her people is admirable.  As much as María has supported her son throughout her mission, she is not willing to let her son deviate from his path.

Like all mothers in the world, before becoming mothers they are human beings, and the way in which each one reacts to suffering is different: apart from her work, she dedicates her free time to serving in the Social Ministry of the community, with the in order to distract herself and not try to suicide her, since she has suffered from depression and anxiety for a long time, this being a product of the amount of sadness she has when she sees her economic situation, the desolation that the death of her husband has caused her. or your work life. She feels, in her words, that she is not allowed to cry, because her son may feel just as bad and she does not want to cause that to him. Her main inspiration to continue with a smile on her face is her son.

Mrs. Xochitl needs to receive psychological attention to be able to deal with the problems she has suffered, and for Jesús Emmanuel to treat his ADHD with a professional, to reach his full potential.

Furthermore, their home is a house without a fixed foundation, built on an old wooden house, damaged by the rain.

Just like Mrs. Xochitl, there are hundreds of cases in our community of fighting mothers who give everything for their loved ones, but their environment does not let them move forward.

Will you help them to change their entire lives?
