Health Program: The reasons for its success in the Oblate community in Tijuana

The medical need in Tijuana, and mainly, in the community where our church is located is enormous, our public medical system has collapsed, and the social context of the place causes diseases whose medications are not affordable by the population.

This program has benefited 4,417 people in medical consultations, prevention talks, and medical care of some kind from 2018 to date, serving half of the number between 2023 and 2024 alone. Its main purpose is to improve the quality of life of the community.

Its coordinator, Medical Doctor Joseline Velázquez Roblero, decided to study medicine for a reason  similar to the  one behind the Program: a bad medical system. She says that her mother received a misdiagnosis of retinal detachment until she went to an Oblate Health Day, and there she received the correct treatment. If she had received it sooner, she would be able to see much better these days. Joseline’s purpose as a doctor was that, to be the doctor that her mother needed, so that more people would not have these types of complications, and in her management as coordinator she has managed to convey that to her team: that they be the doctors or nurses that the world needs, this being precisely the purpose of the doctors of the Health Program.

The benefits that the Health Program provides are 100% free medical care, 100% free patent medicine, visiting patients who cannot leave their homes and providing them with the support they need, with medical support being the main one.

The reason for the success of the Health Program is that the needs of the people are truly covered; cases of self-medication have been reduced due to the accessibility and free care provided by the Program’s doctors.

Thanks to your donations, the Health Program of the Oblate Community of Tijuana has been greatly enriched; they have an electrocardiogram, blood pressure meters, but they have too much left to have a proper office.

We hope that we can count with proper medical equipment so we can provide better help to our community, with the dignity they deserve. We can’t do this without your help. It’s you who can help keep our program alive and growing. May God bless your generosity.
